Renowned businessman and philanthropist, Rabiu Isyaku Rabiu has lauded the contributions of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko to educational development in Sokoto State, describing him as a visionary leader whose investments have transformed the lives of thousands of young people.
According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media, Bashar Abubakar, made available to journalists on Sunday, Rabiu made the commendation in a congratulatory letter dated July 2, 2026, to mark celebrations of educational development in the state, where he said Wamakko’s administration laid a solid foundation for the expansion and modernisation of higher education.
According to him, the establishment of Sokoto State University and Northwest University Sokoto remains one of the former governor’s most enduring legacies.
He said the two institutions have significantly expanded access to quality higher education and produced graduates making meaningful contributions to national development.
Rabiu also commended Wamakko’s sustained commitment to education through increased funding for the sector, noting that as governor, he allocated up to 30 per cent of the state’s budget to education.
He further credited the former governor with expanding school enrolment, establishing Women Education Centres and overseeing significant growth in tertiary education across Sokoto State.
Describing Wamakko as a teacher, administrator, former governor and senator, Rabiu said his public service has consistently reflected a commitment to combating illiteracy, reducing poverty and empowering future generations through education.
He prayed for Allah to grant the former governor good health, wisdom and long life to continue serving humanity and witnessing the lasting impact of the educational institutions established during his administration.
