Today, October 29, 2026, as family members, friends, colleagues and associates gather to bid a final farewell to Mr Adeniyi Olugbemi, publisher of The Guild magazine, I find it difficult to accept that a man who meant so much to me is no longer with us.
Adeniyi died on October 24, leaving behind memories that will remain indelible in the hearts of those who knew him. His death is not only a painful personal loss to me but also a loss to the journalism community and all those whose lives he touched through his work, counsel and friendship.
To me, Adeniyi was much more than a colleague. He was a brother, a trusted adviser and a dependable companion in the demanding but noble profession of journalism. He was someone I could turn to for guidance, share my thoughts with and draw strength from whenever the challenges of our profession became overwhelming.

In a profession where deadlines are relentless, pressures are constant and the search for truth often involves difficult choices, having someone you can trust is invaluable. Adeniyi was one of those rare individuals whose presence made the journey easier. His advice mattered, his friendship was reassuring, and his contributions to conversations about our work often offered perspectives worth reflecting on.
As the publisher of The Guild magazine, Adeniyi occupied a position that demanded commitment, courage and a deep understanding of the media landscape. Publishing is not an easy responsibility. It requires resilience, sacrifice and the determination to keep going even when the odds appear overwhelming. Through his involvement in the profession, he became part of the community of journalists and media practitioners whose work helps shape public discourse and keeps society informed.
But beyond the title of publisher was the man I knew and related to: a brother whose counsel I valued and a colleague whose companionship I cherished.
