The Sokoto State Government has denied reports that 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, were abducted by suspected terrorists while travelling to Oyo State.
The government, in a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Abubakar Bawa, described the report published by Sahara Reporters as false and urged the public to disregard it.
According to the statement, no student of Gamji College of Health Technology was abducted while travelling in a chartered bus from Sokoto to Oyo State, as reported.
The government clarified that the person abducted was Halima Sokeni, a former student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, More Area, Sokoto State.
Sokeni, who graduated from the institution as a midwife in September 2026, was reportedly travelling home on Thursday, October 1, when she and other passengers were abducted in Niger State.
The Sokoto State Government urged journalists and media organisations to adhere to professional and ethical standards by verifying information before publication.
It said such verification was necessary to prevent the spread of false, misleading and potentially alarming reports.
The government expressed concern that inaccurate reports could cause unnecessary panic among students, families and members of the public.
