The Atiku/Amaechi Movement has said the 2027 presidential election should be about leadership capacity, experience and the need to rescue Nigeria rather than personalities.
The group made the position known in a statement signed by its National Director of Media and Communications, Hassan Sahabi Sanyinnawal on Thursday, following recent comments by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, concerning the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The movement said it respected Kwankwaso’s right to express his opinion, describing him as a respected leader and stakeholder in Nigeria’s democracy.
According to the group, Atiku possesses the experience, economic understanding and national reach required to lead and unite the country.
It added that pairing Atiku with former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, would provide Nigerians with what it described as “tested leadership” at a critical period.
“2027 is not about personalities. It is about capacity, experience and the urgent need to rescue Nigeria,” the statement said.
The movement acknowledged disagreements over the suitability of the proposed ticket but said it would not engage in rancour.
It identified insecurity, poverty and national division as major challenges confronting Nigerians, arguing that they should take precedence over political distractions.
The group consequently called on opposition leaders and other Nigerians to prioritise the country and work towards a united political front ahead of the 2027 election.
“Our doors remain open for dialogue, collaboration and a united front to send a clear message in 2027,” the statement said.
The movement added that Nigerians were “tired” and deserved better leadership, saying it was prepared to provide an alternative.
