[OPINION] Establishing a Just Society: Sheikh Fodiyo and the Handpicked Scholars Who Shaped Northern Nigeria
One of the scholars assigned by Sheikh Usman Bin Fodiyo was Malam Umaru Dallaji, who was assigned to Katsina. Katsina was an important region in the Sokoto Caliphate, and Malam Umaru Dallaji played a key role in spreading Islamic teachings and implementing reforms in the area. Another scholar, Malam Sulaimanu, was assigned to Kano, a region known for its rich Islamic heritage. Malam Sulaimanu worked tirelessly to spread the teachings of Islam and implement reforms in Kano.
It is no exaggeration to say that Zazzau lost a great stateswoman with the death of Hajiya Bilkisu. Her legacy of compassion, kindness, and generosity will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched. The youth and women of Zazzau, in particular, lost a mentor, a guardian, and a living history with her passing. Hajiya Bilkisu was an embodiment of all the exemplary qualities that the young should strive to achieve – integrity, humility, and a deep sense of community spirit.
Suleiman called on the youth to be proactive in addressing community challenges such as poverty, insecurity, and social injustice, and to work collectively towards real change.
